Who needs a visa for Azerbaijan?

Travelers from all countries except Belarus, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Qatar need a visa from a diplomatic mission or an online e-visa to enter Azerbaijan.

Requirements for an Azerbaijan e-visa

If you want to enter Azerbaijan with an e-visa, in addition to being a citizen of one of the approved e-visa countries, you must meet additional requirements. These are:

  • The expiration date of your passport is at least three months after the last day of validity of your e-visa.
  • Your passport data matches the information you provided in your e-visa application.
  • You do not give any indication that you intend to live or work in Azerbaijan.
  • You are planning to leave no later than the last day of your residence permit.
  • You have never traveled to Nagorno-Karabakh or other regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan occupied by the Republic of Armenia since 1991 without permission.
  • Azerbaijani customs and border guards consider you eligible to enter Azerbaijan.

The final decision on your entry into Azerbaijan will be made by the local border guards.

Special rule for journalists

Suppose you wish to enter Azerbaijan as a correspondent or camera person. In that case, you must be accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan prior to your application.

e-visa for Azerbaijan: required documents

For the e-visa application to enter Azerbaijan, you need a valid passport from one of the participating e-visa countries. The online form requires you to upload a clearly readable scan of the data page of your passport as a jpg file.

Present the printout of your e-visa approval together with your original passport at the border control point of the Republic of Azerbaijan upon entry.

Azerbaijan visa for children

Each person traveling with you to Azerbaijan must either complete their own e-visa application or be added to your application. Select the "Add Person" option in the application form for children included in your passport.

Please note that you may need to prove the legality of the joint trip at the border when traveling with children. Therefore, we recommend bringing certified copies of birth certificates, identification documents of other guardians, as well as a signed consent form from the minor to travel (if possible).

Within approximately three days, you can expect your e-visa to be approved. Print the document, including the machine-readable code in the upper right corner, and place it with your travel documents.

If you hold dual citizenship, you must choose one of your passports to use as your application and travel document. You will be allowed to travel across the border to Azerbaijan only if your e-visa approval matches the data in the passport you present.

How long is the e-visa for Azerbaijan valid?

An approved e-visa for Azerbaijan is valid for a total of 90 days. Within these 90 days, you may travel to Azerbaijan for a maximum of 30 days at a time.

If you do not use your e-visa for Azerbaijan within the 90 days after the earliest arrival date recorded in the document, it will become invalid, and you will need to apply for a new permit.

e-visa for Azerbaijan rejected: what now?

The rejection of an e-visa application for Azerbaijan can be due to various reasons. Among the most common are:

  • The information you provided does not match the information in your passport.
  • You have provided incorrect or incomplete information.
  • The uploaded scan of your passport is unreadable or difficult to read.
  • The border guards suspect you intend to work or immigrate illegally to Azerbaijan.
  • You have applied for an e-visa as a journalist or camera person without accreditation.
  • You have traveled without authorization to Nagorno-Karabakh or other regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan occupied by the Republic of Armenia after 1991 in the past.

In case of refusal of your e-visa to Azerbaijan, you will be sent an explanation by email. Contact your local embassy or consulate along with that message to reapply.

How to correct an error in the application?

If you notice an error immediately after submitting your e-visa application for Azerbaijan, you will need to submit a new e-visa application. Once submitted, applications cannot be corrected.

Entering Azerbaijan: what to consider?

Upon arrival at the Azerbaijani border, present your passport and the printout of your e-visa approval to the border officials. The responsible personnel will then make the final decision about your entry into Azerbaijan based on a personal assessment as well as the comparison of your data.

If you are staying in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days, you must officially register with your hotel management (or your respective accommodation). They will then formally register you with the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Obligation to register in Azerbaijan

Your official registration must take place within five days of your arrival at your hotel if you plan to stay in Azerbaijan for 15 days or more. Visitors staying in private accommodation must register independently.

You must first leave the country in order to apply for a new e-visa for Azerbaijan. It is not possible to extend or reapply for an e-visa on the spot.

If you need to change your travel dates after receiving your e-visa, you can still enter Azerbaijan within the 90-day validity period. However, the maximum length of stay per entry is 30 days. If your travel plans change drastically and you would exceed the validity period, you will need to apply for a new e-visa.
